IELTS Preparation Programme

IELTS General Training Preparation

Build Your English for Work, Migration, and Everyday Life

IELTS General Training is intended primarily for people who need to demonstrate their English proficiency for migration, employment-related purposes, training programmes, or education below degree level, depending on the requirements of the relevant organisation.

Unlike IELTS Academic, which focuses more heavily on academic reading and writing, IELTS General Training assesses English skills relevant to everyday life, social interactions, and workplace situations.

Our IELTS General Training Preparation Course helps you become familiar with the test format while developing the practical communication and examination skills needed to work towards your target band score.

What Will You Learn?

01

Listening

Develop your ability to understand everyday conversations, social interactions, and workplace-related discussions, as well as longer talks and educational or informational presentations.

You will practise identifying important details, understanding instructions, recognising speakers’ opinions, following conversations, and completing different IELTS Listening question types.

You will also develop strategies for managing time, recognising paraphrasing, and avoiding common listening errors.

02

General Training Reading

Improve your ability to understand practical written English in everyday and professional contexts.

You will work with texts such as advertisements, notices, announcements, workplace documents, instructions, and longer general-interest passages.

You will learn how to:

  • Locate specific information quickly.
  • Understand the purpose and main idea of a text.
  • Identify important details and supporting information.
  • Recognise paraphrased statements.
  • Understand vocabulary from context.
  • Answer different IELTS Reading question types efficiently.
03

General Training Writing

Develop the ability to write clear, appropriate, and well-organised texts for everyday and professional purposes.

Task 1: Letter Writing

Learn how to write formal, semi-formal, and informal letters in response to different situations.

  • Request information or assistance.
  • Make complaints or explain problems.

  • Explain a situation or apologise.
  • Invite someone or respond to an invitation.
  • Make arrangements or provide information.

You will learn how to identify the purpose of a letter, address all the required points, choose an appropriate tone, and organise your ideas effectively.

Task 2: Essay Writing

Develop the skills needed to write a clear, well-supported essay on a general-interest topic.

Practise responding to opinion questions, discussing both sides of an argument, explaining advantages and disadvantages, and proposing solutions to problems.

You will learn how to plan your response, organise paragraphs, support ideas with examples, use linking expressions naturally, and improve vocabulary and grammar accuracy.

04

Speaking

Develop the confidence to communicate naturally and effectively in English.

You will practise all three parts of the IELTS Speaking test:

  • Part 1: Discuss familiar topics, including work, home, hobbies, and daily routines.
  • Part 2: Prepare and deliver a longer talk about a given topic.
  • Part 3: Discuss broader issues, explain opinions, compare perspectives, and support your ideas with examples.
