Unit 10 – Grammar Rules
10A – Superlative adjectives
We use the + superlative adjective to say which person or thing is number one in a group.
Examples
- This is the oldest building in the city.
- She’s the most confident student in the class.
- Friday is the worst day for traffic.
After superlatives, we usually use in (not of) with places and groups:
- the tallest tower in the world
- the best café in my town

Adjectives end with; consonant + vowel + consonant, double the last consonant and add -est |

10B – be going to (plans) & future time expressions
We use be going to + verb (infinitive) to talk about future plans and intentions.
Examples
- I’m going to visit my aunt next weekend.
- She isn’t going to work tomorrow.
- Are they going to move house next year?
We often use future time expressions such as:
- tomorrow
- tonight
- next week / month / year
- this evening

10C – be going to (predictions)
We also use be going to to make predictions when:
- we can see evidence
- we strongly believe something will happen
Examples
- Look at those clouds — it’s going to rain.
- He’s driving too fast. He’s going to have an accident.
- I’m sure they’re going to win the game.
