9A — Present Continuous

A. Form

We form the present continuous with:

be (am / is / are) + verb + -ing

Affirmative

Subject	Be	Verb -ing
I	am	working now.
He	is	talking on the phone.
They	are	waiting outside.

Negative

Subject	Be + not	Verb -ing
I	am not	working now.
She	is not	listening to you.
We	are not	having dinner now.

Questions

Wh-word	Be	Subject	Verb -ing	Answer
–	Are	you	studying now?	Yes, I am / No, I am not.
–	Is	she	watching TV?	Yes, she is / No, she isn’t.
What	are	they	doing?	They’re talking.

B. Use

We use the present continuous for:

Actions happening now (at the moment of speaking)
Examples:
I’m studying English right now.
They’re watching a movie in the cinema right now.
He’s waiting outside at the moment.
Actions happening around now / today
Examples:
I’m watching a new series these days.
They’re working on a new project nowadays.
